Happy New Year!

I am starting 2016 the same way I finished 2015 by posting some more of the recent marker sketches. I usually post some new work (although these are new as well) , often one I did near the end of December or literally the first day of the new year but this year I felt like trying something different by letting one year roll into the next.
I have several watercolors in progress for an upcoming show as well as various oils. The oils in the manner I work that is very layered and time consuming.
Anyway, it won't be long before I am back to posting paintings again. I hope you have enjoyed all these black and white sketches as much as I have enjoyed making them.407,408,409,410

  1. Happy New Year David! I am sorry haven't been writing much lately or putting much art out! Some family health issues to deal with. As soon as things are back on track I will write and blog more! Of course I love all your art! Love all these black and white works. Remind me so much of the wonderful film noire movies from way back in the day! Looking forward to more of your art in 2016!
    Take care buddy!

  2. Happy New Year to you too Michael!
Sorry to hear about the health issues, we all have some at times. Look forward to you getting back on track soon.
Thanks for your comment and glad you like them.
I was having some fun just drawing for the most part lately.
    Keep trucking and keep painting...

  3. Another great flock of sketches David. Now that I'm back into the pressure of the painting challenge I'm wondering if you have been relaxing with these lovely sketches as a wind-down from the arduousness of your painting exhibition a few months back? It is exhausting painting every day - but very rewarding.
Have you been getting a real winter yet?

  4. Thanks Wendy. Yes, the sketches have been a nice (and necessary?) wind-down from the continuous painting prior to the recent Art-A-Fair festival. It was a lot of work. And I will be back there this summer too so I am not too far off from needing to get painting again as well as maintaining various other shows and projects.
You really dove right in to your painting challenge. Happy you find it rewarding!
Looks like we will finally get a winter this year. We just got hit by our first storm and there are 2 more lined up behind it. Here we go...
    Keep painting...

  5. Glad to hear you are getting a proper winter, but hope it won't be TOO wintry for comfort after all that warm weather. We are getting horrendous fires at the moment. Main roads south are closed and a music festival my daughter was planning to go to tomorrow is cancelled because of the fire danger. It's the worst thing about summer. Loving the beach though.
I hope you are brewing lots of great ideas for your next painting frenzy!

  6. Hi Wendy, it may be a feast or famine this year, we'll see. Been famine (winter) last few years so we are due for a big one. The first three storms caused some flooding. Watching the news the other night the weatherman said just one of the storms dumped 20 trillion gallons of water on just LA County in a matter of hours!
We need it but not all at once!

Wildfires! Yeah we have the same dry climate so we know wildfires all too well... mudslides later, like we are getting now with the heavy rain!
You try to stay wet and we'll try to stay dry. Then we will have to switch when we get summer you get winter! It's all we can do! ; )

About to get painting again... always have too may ideas to do! Thanks

    Keep painting...
