Rain at 6x6 Show

"11th St. Rain"    SOLD
oil on panel, 2012
6" x 6" (15.24cm x 15.24cm)
Randy Higbee Gallery

Here is one of my four paintings accepted into the 6 Inch Squared show at Randy Higbee Gallery.

If you are like me you never tire of rain and weather images. I love shiny glistening streets under these conditions. The landscape under a canopy of clouds with the golden sun breaking through.
I've always thought of rainy days as slow days. Here I've painted the late afternoon with a lone figure returning home from work in no particular hurry.196

  1. Now! That's what I'm taking about! Great! Great! Great!
I love all four of your fantastic six inch paintings! Hard for me to believe you were able to get all that wonderful art onto such small surfaces!
I also love your comments about this work. I never ever tire of rain or other weather phenomena! I can't stand it when a weather forecaster describes rain as gloomy or depressing! I find it exciting and exhilarating.
Another gem! Thanks for posting David!
    Happy Thanksgiving Buddy!

  2. Hi Michael,
Thank you. I should say the promo mailer in the previous post is the gallery's announcement. The art on it is other artists in the show not mine.
This is the first of mine (for the show) posted. I submitted 7 and had 4 accepted. Will be posting the rest over the next couple weeks.

I agree with your comment, I don't find it gloomy either, that must be the artist in us. We see the beauty of it, otherwise how boring things would be if every day was the same!

    Thanks and keep painting...

  3. Congratulations on being accepted into the Randy Higbee Gallery. This picture is very good. As your comets that hour and the atmosphere is magical. You worked as a teacher. The rain and bad weather helps us to reflect on life.

    1. Thanks Ricardo,
Days like this as well as the hour of day are some of my favorite.
And yes there is something about that layer of clouds over us that makes us contemplative.

      Keep painting...

      Gracias Ricardo,
Días como este, así como la hora del día son algunos de mis favoritos.
Y sí hay algo en esa capa de nubes sobre nosotros que es contemplativa.

      Mantenga la pintura ...

  4. Congratulations on getting in the show and for this beautiful painting. Great color and depth

  5. Thanks Stephen,
Southern California weather is limited compared your part of the country but there is still plenty to paint here if I'm paying attention.
    Keep painting...
